Backgammon history
holaBackgammon is one of the most antiques games with almost 5000 years of history. It is believed that “Senet”, a game of the antique Egypt, is its furthest ancestor. It is obvious that the rules that were used at that time are not known nowadays, but it is known that it was a betting game and that basically, it used to have a board of 3 x 10 with opposite chips that were moved in the opposite direction and each movement was done according to what dice said, made of bones or ceramics.
Then the Persian would introduce as “Senat” in Europe where it has a great acceptance in between royal members. This backgammon predecessor received a lot of names after its entrance to Europe. In Greece it was called Tavli, romans called it Tables, in France Le Trictrac, English people Tables, in Spain and Italy it was called Real Tables. In this european versions rules were quiet similar to the one known actually.
Backgammon game was the one used since the 17th century in England, probably this name was used because of the possibility of returning chips to the board. Edmond Hoyle, best known as Edmund, a known writer by its writing ability for the rules of many card games. He was the person in charge of creating in 1743 backgammon rules. ln the 20th century they began playing with two dice and they added bets for giving the game more speed.
Actually the game has become quiet popular, this is because of its introduction among online games. In general, this produced a variation regarding its appearance, but it makes attraction for backgammon grow. Nowadays many backgammon tournaments and competitions are organized with people all over the world.
